Po Ka Tiam

While I was in my hometown, Bandung, I dined out all the time. One of the places I patronized a lot was Po Ka Tiam.

Why? Do they have delicious food? Well, actually, no. Honestly, the food is not to our satisfaction, especially to my husband who is accustomed to real kopitiam food.

By the way, Po Ka Tiam is an Indonesian version of Ko Pi Tiam which is popular in Singapore and Malaysia. If you read the link about Ko Pi Tiam, you know that Ko Pi Tiam is just a breakfast place but not the Po Ka Tiam. This place opened from breakfast to dinner.

Of course, they have Indonesian version of Chinese food in their menu.

Why do we still visit this place often then? This place is the only place nearby our hotel that has air-conditioner and is smoke-free!!. There is one fact that you may not know about Indonesia; it is hard to find smoke-free restaurants. You may also ask, how about restaurants that put up No Smoking sign? Those signs are only for show and to attract people to dine in but in realty most people will ignore them. I heard from a friend, in Po Ka Tiam, they stand on their promise. They will not allow people to smoke.

This restaurant has also outdone itself. Besides, its reputation of a smoke-free restaurant, it also decorated the restaurant to the max. Take a look at this!

So, I rated this restaurant 4 stars. Not 5 stars...mainly because I have not got a chance to see the waiters asking people who smoke to leave.

I did not photograph the food we ordered but I managed to captured these glossy chicken (it is so glossy that it has my flash reflection on it).

Sorry for the bad and blurry photos. There was not enough light to make my pictures bright and beautiful!

According to "As I journey through life..." , they serve good duck bee hoon, awesome char siu noodles but their Kaya Toast is only okay. Their Dim Sum is just ordinary. What strikes me most was the incorrect Chinese character for their Special of the day "Chai Tao Kueh!"
