I was about to recommend this dish to my vegetarian friend, Nehal when I realized that I have not posted this recipe in my Blogspot's blog yet. These food pictures were taken long ago. It was too long ago that I had a hard time trying to find these pictures in Flickr. Vaguely, I remembered I had posted the recipe in my other blog.
Erie has been so gloomy these past few weeks. Winter, for me is bad enough with the cold and the snow. However, it was more depressing without the sun. No sun means no food pictures. I know, you will say, use artificial light, use flash! Well, I should but again my mood is not there. So in the meantime, my old unpublished pictures will have their chance to be published.

The recipe for Sayur Asam/Indonesia vegetable soup
Ingredients :
600 cc water
2 tomatoes, cut each into 4 parts
4 shallots, thinly sliced
1 tsp of tamarind (it can be purchased in organic store or Chinese grocery store)
Salt
1 tbsp of brown sugar/palm sugar
1 bay leave
1/2 inch of galanga
10 pcs of green beans, each cut into 2 parts
1 or 2 ears of corn, cut into 4 parts (or you can use frozen corns)
100 gram raw peanut
enough cabbage, cut into big square size
You can also add other vegetables like red peppers, eggplants and zucchini.
Directions:
1. In a deep pot boiled peanuts and cut corns. Add in cut tomatoes, shallots, tamarind, brown sugar, bay leave and galanga. Boiled on medium fire until the peanuts are tender.
2. Add in other vegetables and boiled them for 5 minutes or until they are tender. Serve.
How to serve?
We usually eat the soup with steam rice, fried chicken/tofu/tempeh and chili sauce.
Enjoy!

Asri: bener2..
Nehal: hope you get to try the recipe. It's hard to take food picture without the natural light :)
Yep. I surely will try the recipe. The only thing is I don't know where to find galangal here:(
Galanga? you can find them in any Chinese grocery stores. Galanga comes in many forms, dried galanga and frozen galanga. Hope you like the sayur asam.
