Buffalo, I thought I knew you well.. and Pound cake

niawandapark

"Let's go to Buffalo!" my husband said two days ago. I was not too excited to go as we visited Buffalo often. Buffalo, NY is our neighboring city and it takes us only one and a half hour to drive there. Over a few years, we knew some friends in Buffalo and thus we visited Buffalo many times. This time, my husband said, we are going to see a folk festival. It was held in Nia-wanda Park, in the town of Tonawanda.
So off we went yesterday. Luckily, the weather was sunny and with the help of our TomTom, we found the Nia-wanda Park easily.
I thought I have seen most of Buffalo, but I was wrong. Nia-wanda Park is nothing like what we have seen in Buffalo. It is very scenic and pleasing. The park itself, is a family-friendly park. There are paths for family to walk or bike and lots of benches to enjoy the scenery. Many people, old and young were there that day.

This folk festival is called Tonawanda folk festival. There were folk dancing and craft shows.
And since we were there for the craft show, I checked the craft tents first before watching the Irish folk dance.

I bought Amanda a blue hair bandana from one of the stores since she did not want to wear her hat.

We saw Irish dance. I love the colors of their dresses and their big curly hair.

Look at this skirt. Isn't the color amazing?

After the show, we went to another park --- Long's Point Park. This park was not very far from Nia-wanda Park.

This park is rest by the canal system. Along the canal, you can see many boats in different sizes.

Many interesting things happend there. We saw some kids jumped from a bridge. Unfortunately, I did not have pictures of them doing that. Eventually those kids were asked to stop by the police. I also saw some interesting people,

people

Well, those three people were not interesting but the man with the snake was interesting. I was about to buy ice cream for Amanda when I saw him with his yellow pet. It took me a few seconds to decide not to line up with this guy after I saw the snake. He was so nice to let me take his picture from the car. And for the girl in black, I like her choice of bikini color and her big hat.

Well, enough for the story of Buffalo. Here is the recipe for today... Pound Cake.

Pound cake

I made this kind of pound cake many times and the cake always turns out moist and nice looking. Martha Stewart's recipe is the only recipe I used for making the pound cake.

Recipe for POUND CAKE,
Source : Martha Stewart

Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, plus more for pan
2 cups sifted cake flour, (not self-rising)
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cup sugar
5 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly butter a 9-by-5-inch baking pan; place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Set aside.
Sift together flour and salt. Set aside.
Beat butter with an electric mixer until fluffy. Gradually add sugar until mixture is creamy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Gently fold in flour mixture cup by cup, blending after each addition; pour into pan. Bake until cake springs back when touched, about 1 1/2 hours. Let cake cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.
Serve a slice of this cake with a cup of warm tea.
